About Silver Plum Personal Chef

Q: What is a personal chef?
A: A personal chef is someone who makes your life simpler.  I come to your home with groceries and tools, cook a menu pre-approved by you, and leave the customized meals in your refrigerator (or freezer) to be heated and savored at your convenience.

Q: How does it work?
A: Like this: you come home from a hard day, open the fridge, and find restaurant-quality food waiting for you.  I've already talked to you about what you like and don't like, allergies, and specific diets, so everything is exactly the way you want it.  I send you unique menus to approve every time, so there's no unhappy surprises, and no repeats (unless requested).  I provide all the groceries and do all the hard work, all you have to do is enjoy!

Q: Isn't a personal chef just for celebrities and rich people?
A: Many people hire personal chefs: busy families, households with two working spouses, people with specific dietary requirements, those who simply prefer to let others do the cooking, or even as a gift for new parents or just for fun!

Q: Do I really need a personal chef?
A: I'm here to make your life easier!  Do you feel there's never enough hours in the day?  Are you having trouble finding ways to stick to a particular diet?  Will you scream if you have to order take-out one more time, just to please everyone in the family?  I can help!  Leave the hard work to me, and enjoy restaurant-quality meals straight from your fridge, every night.

Q: Why don't I just go out to a restaurant?
A: Because a restaurant can't possibly offer the same level of personalized service that I do. With Silver Plum, you'll have new dishes to try every single time, all tailored to your personal tastes. Name a restaurant that can do that!

Q: Isn't this just overpriced TV dinners?
A: No!  I strive to make every meal as healthy as it is delicious.  You'll get none of the science-lab ingredients found in pre-packaged food, or the loads of butter many restaurants use indiscriminately.  All the ingredients I use are carefully selected for top quality, and to adhere to your specific requests.

Q: What services do you offer?
A: I can cook everyday meals for you on a monthly, bi-weekly, or weekly schedule, or whenever you like.  I can also prepare food in your home for small-scale dinner parties or cocktail parties.  A full list of services may be found here.  Customization is my specialty!

Q: My husband/wife is vegetarian, and I'm a die-hard carnivore.  Can you help?
A: Yes!  This situation is actually quite common, and is just another day on the job for a personal chef.  Customization is my specialty.

Q: I am allergic to nuts / can't have gluten / hate cilantro. Can you prepare meals for me?
A: Absolutely!  Before cooking, I do a full assessment of each individual's food preferences and allergies. Meals are customized to every level of need or discriminating taste.

Q: Will you cook in my house?
A: All food preparation is done in your own kitchen. Food is never prepared elsewhere, so you know exactly where your food has been.

Q: What materials do you provide?
A: Everything!  I will bring all necessary groceries to prepare your chosen menu, down to the salt and pepper, as well as all utensils, pots, and pans needed. You don't have to provide a thing, unless you prefer to.

Q: What do I need to provide?
A: All I need from you is a working stove and oven, running hot water, and enough space in the refrigerator or freezer to store the meals you've ordered.

Q: How do you store the meals I've ordered?
A: Depending on your preference, food will be refrigerated or frozen in single-use containers, or in reusable glass storage containers. Both are provided for you, though glass containers require a one-time nonrefundable deposit, and are yours to keep.

Q: What are your credentials?
A: Silver Plum is fully licensed and insured in the City of Chicago. I personally hold a ServSafe Food Sanitation Certificate, and am a member in good standing of the American Personal and Private Chef Association. I was graduated Magna Cum Laude from Sullivan University in 2006, with a specialty in Baking and Pastry Arts.  I am also completely obsessed with food and cooking.
